“How do you get to be a euphonium player? Good question. Is our choice of instrument so important? It is, after all, only a tool for expressing music. It doesn’t matter what instruments, genders, cultures, ages or beliefs are involved, if they help you get into music. Music is to my mind an art with a huge number of virtues, three of which I think are of prime importance – patience, sharing and modesty. When you’re working, you have to be patient, painstaking and polished. Afterwards, this work will be shared freely, with all the emotions and creativity we have put into it. But music is also an art that can be taught, in all modesty, to give the keys needed to move forward and develop along with our experiences.

So why did I choose the euphonium?

Pure chance, certainly!”
